Nicolas Dixon says painting at Elland Road is 'as good as it gets' as mural move nears completion | OneFootball

Leeds United superfan artist Nicolas Dixon, creator of Bielsa The Redeemer, is leading the relocation of a mural honouring the club’s 1972 FA Cup winners at Elland Road.

“As a Leeds United fan painting on the side of Elland Road is as good as it gets,” he told yorkshireeveningpost.co.uk.

Plans for a new West Stand were approved in January. As the wall becomes the club’s new security hub, with outward kiosk windows, the mural had to be moved and repainted, and the club recommissioned Dixon.

The piece sits at the north east corner and celebrates that FA Cup triumph, featuring Don Revie, trainer and coach Les Cocker and iconic players. First hand painted in 2022 for the Leeds United Supporters Trust using portraits by Paul Trevillion, the relocation demanded a redesign, and he re-enlisted a graphic designer. “I had to reconfigure the players and totally redesign it as the kiosk was right on Don Revie’s head. It was more difficult than I expected to be honest but I’m quite happy with how it all fits, and I actually prefer it now to how it was before,” he said.

Dixon, who has hinted at a few surprises, expects to add the finishing touches this weekend, and the work is already visible to passers-by. Work across Elland Road is accelerating before the new season, with RB Leipzig visiting for a pre-season friendly on August 8, and capacity is set to rise by over 15,000 to 53,000 from 37,645.
