Noah Atubolu has been voted SC Freiburg’s player of the 2025/26 season after a superb year in goal.

According to BuLi News, half of the writers’ votes went to the 24-year-old, sealing the Bulinews Player of the Season Awards: SC Freiburg Player of the Season.

Balancing the Bundesliga with a deep Europa League run, Freiburg still collected 47 points, finished seventh, reached the Europa League final and the DFB Pokal semi-finals.

Atubolu played every minute in the Bundesliga and Europa League, keeping six league clean sheets. In September, a save against Werder Bremen set a league record of five consecutive penalty stops.

His form drew recognition at home and abroad. He earned a first Germany call-up in October, narrowly missed Julian Nagelsmann’s World Cup squad and, amid transfer rumours, could move this summer.

In February, with Freiburg down to 10 men, Atubolu made six saves, including a diving stop to deny Justin Njinmah’s bicycle kick, clinching a 1-0 win. Across the season against Bremen he made eleven saves, one penalty stop and conceded none.

Mio Backhaus has since joined Freiburg as a potential Atubolu replacement. In the voting, Johan Manzambi took three of 10, producing five Bundesliga goals and four assists, while Igor Matanović and Matthias Ginter received one each. Matanović also made Croatia’s squad this summer, and Ginter missed only two matches.
