British architect Norman Foster is staying tight-lipped on the new San Siro stadium project for Inter and Milan.

Asked by reporters to offer a preview of the design that will replace the legendary San Siro, the British architect simply replied: “I remind you there’s only one chance to make a good first impression.”

As Corriere della Sera reports, via FCInter1908, secrecy remains the watchword.

The project is expected to serve as a new architectural symbol for the city, raising expectations that it must live up to the historic Meazza.

Meetings between Foster’s studio, Manica Architecture, and the ownership groups Oaktree (Inter) and RedBird (Milan) are ongoing.

Indeed multiple design drafts are likely to be presented before a final proposal is chosen around mid-2026.

Once approved, the process will move into the construction phase.

A public tender will likely be launched to select the building consortium, open to both Italian and international groups.

The key requirement will be strict adherence to the agreed cost ceiling.

Both clubs have already secured the necessary financial backing.

Loans have been arranged through JP Morgan, Goldman Sachs, Banco BPM and BPER, supported by equity input from Oaktree and RedBird.

The majority of the €1 billion-plus project will, however, be financed through debt.
