Arsenal and Tottenham Hotspur both missed the chance to go fourth in the WSL but the latter will be the happiest of the two teams after a goalless draw.

In a game that was similar to Chelsea's early draw away to Liverpool, Champions League winners Arsenal came up against a strong barrier of resistance.

Martin Ho's side were happy to let Arsenal have possession and looked to pounce on the counter attack but the Gunners struggled to find a way through.

Alessia Russo had a good chance midway through the first half after good play from Beth Mead but fired her effort wide of the mark.

With the game goalless at the break Renée Slegers made two chances with Taylor Hinds and Olivia Smith both coming on. The latter of those two certainly posed a threat from wide areas but still Spurs stayed strong.

Eventually, despite the creativity of the likes of Mariona Caldentey and co, Arsenal eventually ran out of ideas and had to settle for a point against their local rivals.

That result means Arsenal finish the weekend fourth with 16 points, the same number as Spurs who are behind by a vastly inferior goal difference.

That result means that the Gunners have won just three of their last 10 games in all competitions with Real Madrid, Liverpool, and FC Twente on the horizon. Meanwhile, this result underlines the improvements at Tottenham.
