Norway’s football federation will file a complaint with FIFA’s ethics committee over Donald Trump’s involvement in the Folarin Balogun suspension saga. The Times reports that NFF president Lise Klaveness said the body will act after the striker’s World Cup ban was overturned.
The NFF wants full clarity on Trump’s call to FIFA president Gianni Infantino, in which he requested the sanction on the American forward be lifted.
Klaveness warned FIFA’s leadership against trying to bury the matter, arguing that bending rules in this way risks the integrity of the game. She also urged Infantino to acknowledge the episode as a mistake.
The new case is expected to be linked to a complaint lodged in June over FIFA’s peace award being given to the US president.
Balogun had been suspended for the World Cup last 16 tie with Belgium, who won 4-1, but was allowed to start after Trump personally approached Infantino to seek the ban’s removal. It emerged 10 days ago that the decision to cancel the suspension was taken solely by Mohammad al-Kamali, the head of FIFA’s disciplinary committee.
