Barcelona star Dani Olmo has this weekend sent a stern message the way of Argentina staff member and former La Liga standout Roberto Ayala.

This of course comes after the pair were at the heart of an ugly exchange in the aftermath of last weekend’s World Cup final.

After the full-time whistle in New York confirmed Spain’s status as world champions, a host of Argentine players and staff alike completely lost control of their emotions.

Amid a chaotic scene, the aforementioned Dani Olmo was one La Roja star targeted, aggressively approached and struck by Roberto Ayala, who now acts as a member of Lionel Scaloni’s coaching staff.

Post-match, the latter revealed his intention to apologise to Olmo, albeit only after justifying his actions by assuring that ‘it was a push’ rather than a punch, in response to ‘something he said’.

And safe to say, this assessment of the situation has since not gone down at all well with the victim himself.

Drawn on Ayala’s comments during an interview with Diari de Terrassa (as cited by Mundo Deportivo) this weekend, Olmo sniped back, insisting:

“Someone who confesses to being sorry but justifies a punch by claiming it was a response to ‘a saying’ is someone who probably isn’t sorry at all.

“He’s not telling the truth, because I didn’t say anything to him, so I don’t need him to apologize. What really defines us isn’t the mistake, but the courage to own up to it.”
