Nottingham Forest lost 3-2 to Manchester United at Old Trafford, a match overshadowed by a handball storm around Matheus Cunha’s strike. With little more than pride at stake, Vitor Pereira said it would have been a big problem had more ridden on it.
According to Nottingham Post, referee Michael Salisbury upheld Cunha’s second half goal after a VAR review, judging contact by Bryan Mbeumo to have followed a body touch and to be accidental. It arrived two minutes after Forest had equalised, restoring United’s lead at 2-1 and leaving Pereira and his players furious.
Morgan Gibbs-White was superb on his masked return from a facial injury sustained against Chelsea. He made it 3-2 with the 1,000th Premier League goal of the season and now has 14 league goals and four assists, the highest combined total since March in the division with 10. Forest fans made plain their view that he should be England’s number 10 as his World Cup case for Thomas Tuchel grows.
There is no doubt Elliot Anderson will make the World Cup cut and be among Tuchel’s first names. He delivered both assists at Old Trafford and is attracting admiring glances, while Forest want to keep all their key players. Money may complicate that, but the club hold the cards over their prized asset.
Pereira was serenaded by the away end after full time, underlining support to stick with him. An eight-match unbeaten league run and a European semi-final point to clear progress, with planning already under way for 2026/27 and a new deal potentially forthcoming. A final-day win at Bournemouth would round it off.
