Ryan Yates has been talking about Anthony Elanga leaving the City Ground.
A £55m deal eventually agreed to take the 23 year old to St James’ Park.
The Nottingham Forest club captain talking about the “what a player” Anthony Elanga is, the impact he has had at Forest these past two seasons.
Whilst as a person, Ryan Yates (pictured above) stating Anthony Elanga; “…was a really top lad and will be thoroughly missed.”
Great to read all of this about Newcastle United’s latest major signing, seemingly the latest in a long line of Eddie Howe signing players with the right character, as well as the necessary quality.
Ryan Yates talking to The Athletic about the departure of Anthony Elanga- 13 July 2025:
“Anthony, what a player.
“What an impact he had [at Nottingham Forest].
“His performances speak for themselves.
“But he was such a big character around the dressing room as well.
“He was a really top lad and will be thoroughly missed.”
Ryan Yates also philosophical about it all and with Anthony Elanga desperate to join Newcastle United, simply a case of then Nottingham Forest getting as much money for the winger as possible…
“I have been in the game for a few years and it is a business.
“Everyone has a price.
“We brought him from Manchester United ourselves so the club’s recruitment is there to see.
“It is just the process. I am sure the recruitment team will do a fantastic job.”
Ryan Yates citing the fact that back in summer 2023 the club sold Brennan Johnson to Spurs for £47.5m,, then used that cash to sign a number of players, including Anthony Elanga from Man U for £15m:
“It [selling a key player] is only a blow if you have an owner who does not invest [that money in the squad].
“But ours has shown repeatedly that he does invest.
“When Brennan left everyone was gutted about it.
“But that money was reinvested so well, into the team.
“The main thing we have had has been stability.
