Nottingham Forest youngster Jamie McDonnell has completed a permanent move to Oxford United. The 21-year-old’s season-long loan at Mansfield Town was cut short earlier this week, and he joins for an undisclosed fee.

"I'm very excited to be here and to get started at Oxford United. It's a club full of ambition, and that was really important to me as I sign a long-term deal," McDonnell said, speaking to Oxford's official website.

He joined Forest from Glentoran in 2020 and spent more than five years in the academy. He did not make a first-team appearance and spent last season on loan at Colchester United.

He had been due to see out the campaign with Mansfield but that spell was curtailed. The Northern Ireland international made 25 appearances for the Stags in the first half of the season.

"I feel I've learnt a lot from my loan spells and grown with every step I've taken so far. I'm ready to challenge myself at this level now and give everything for the team."
