Nottingham Forest have confirmed the departure of Vitor Pereira as head coach after less than five months in charge.
According to Nottingham Post, he was dismissed by email at 11.58pm on 30 June, two minutes before a contract break clause expired, allowing the club to avoid a costlier payout.
The timing came as a complete surprise to Pereira, who received no warning. He had been preparing for the new campaign, arranging friendlies, planning a training camp in Portugal and attending recruitment meetings on summer targets.
Appointed in February on an 18-month deal, he became Forest’s fourth manager of a turbulent season. In a brief but effective spell he steered the team away from relegation and into the Europa League semi-finals.
Before the club announcement, Pereira issued a statement expressing sadness and disappointment while stressing he felt no bitterness. He voiced pride in the squad’s progress and thanked players, staff and supporters for their commitment.
Forest are expected to appoint former Crystal Palace boss Oliver Glasner on a three-year deal. If finalised, Glasner will become Nottingham Forest’s fifth permanent manager in less than a year.
