Nottingham Forest are monitoring Bologna forward Santiago Castro ahead of the January window as they weigh up adding to their attack.

According to an Italian sports daily, Forest have sent scouts to watch the 21-year-old, with Chelsea and Aston Villa also checking on him, Villa having tracked him for the past two years.

Concern over interest from three Premier League clubs has prompted Bologna to hold Christmas talks with Castro’s representatives about a new contract. They want to extend his 2028 deal to 2029, with a further one-year option and pay of €800,000 (£700,000) plus €400,000 (£340,000) in bonuses.

Premier League suitors are thought able to match those terms, though convincing the Argentine to move could prove harder. His price has previously been put at €40-50m (£35-43m) and Inter have also been linked.

Castro has made 21 appearances for Bologna this season, scoring 5 goals.

At the City Ground the winter window is expected to be quiet after a £180m summer, though head coach Sean Dyche still wants scope to tweak his squad. A striker could be targeted, with Chris Wood recovering from knee surgery and Taiwo Awoniyi and Arno Kalimuendo both linked with January moves. Dyche has indicated business is likely to be limited while staying alert to market shifts.
