Nottingham Forest are set to lose Elliot Anderson to Manchester City after agreeing a £116m deal, and replacing him could be complicated by Liverpool’s stance on Curtis Jones.

According to Nottingham Post, Anderson completed a medical with City while on England duty at the World Cup. An announcement is thought to be imminent, leaving Vitor Pereira poised to lose his key midfielder in the coming days.

Forest have targeted Jones as a replacement, but any move is likely to hinge on meeting Liverpool’s £40m valuation. Inter Milan have already had a £21.5m approach rejected.

Liverpool are thought to be content to keep the 25-year-old if bids fall short, despite him entering the final year of his contract. Talks over a new deal have not been ruled out, with the club having completed late renewals for Virgil van Dijk and Mohamed Salah the season before last.

Jones made 34 Premier League appearances in 2025/26, totalling 1,930 minutes as Liverpool finished fifth after a slow start to their title defence.

Forest could also explore Lucas Bergvall, who has signalled his intention to leave Tottenham Hotspur in the coming months after inconsistent game time.

Spurs signed the Sweden international from Djurgarden in 2024 for £8.5m and are in no rush to accept low offers. They could accept a cut-price fee to free funds and wages as they pursue Newcastle’s Sandro Tonali and West Ham’s Mateus Fernandes.
