Neco Williams’ equaliser earned Nottingham Forest a valuable 1-1 draw with Aston Villa at the City Ground in their relegation fight.
Forest began brightly but trailed just after the 20-minute mark when Murillo diverted Morgan Rogers’ left-wing cross into his own net. Nottingham Post notes Williams later topped the player ratings with 9/10.
Matz Sels saved from Ollie Watkins, then Rogers struck the bar before Williams levelled on 38 minutes, sweeping into the bottom corner from Callum Hudson-Odoi’s pass.
Fired up, Williams tested Marco Bizot before the break. After half-time Igor Jesus passed up two chances and Morgan Gibbs-White was denied just past the hour.
By then Sels had already stopped Amadou Onana, and he later produced an excellent save to thwart John McGinn. Villa stayed dangerous and Rogers missed a sitter with 25 minutes remaining.
Watkins also spurned a close-range chance approaching the final 10 minutes as the visitors pressed, but Forest held on for a point that could prove crucial.
Player ratings: Sels 8.5, Aina 7, Milenkovic 7.5, Murillo 7, Williams 9, Sangare 7, Elliot Anderson 7, Omari Hutchinson 5, Morgan Gibbs-White 6.5, Callum Hudson-Odoi 5.5, Igor Jesus 5.
Subs: Chris Wood 6, Nicolas Dominguez 6, Ryan Yates 6, Dan Ndoye 6. Subs not used: Ortega, Morato, McAtee, Netz, Bakwa.
