Nottingham Forest FC have reached an agreement with Lyon for the transfer of highly-promising winger Malick Fofana (20), according to Fabrizio Romano. Given their precarious financial situation, Les Gones are expected to part ways with their most prized assets this summer as they seek to overturn the Ligue 2 relegation they were handed last week by the DNCG.
Former Lyon president John Textor reportedly planned for Fofana – who is valued at €50m – to be sold this summer to inject some cash into the club’s funds. The Belgian winger has caught the attention of several high-profile European clubs, including Liverpool, Chelsea FC, Napoli and Bayern Munich. Nottingham Forest have now come to an agreement with Lyon, which is not a surprise in itself given the close ties between Eagle’s Textor and the Trees’ owner, Evangelos Marinakis.
Romano understands that Fofana has not agreed to the move. The 20-year-old would rather join a Champions League-playing club.
