A historic European night returns to The City Ground on Thursday as Nottingham Forest play their first continental home match since March 1996.
The visit of Danish champions Midtjylland will be a huge occasion for the club and its supporters, ending a wait of nearly 30 years. The celebratory atmosphere is, however, overshadowed by a crisis of confidence at the club.
New manager Ange Postecoglou is still searching for his first win after five matches, the worst start for a permanent Forest boss since the 19th century. Therefore, a positive result in front of the home fans is absolutely vital to ease the mounting pressure.
Ange Postecoglou is expected to make several changes from the side that lost to Sunderland at the weekend. Key attackers Morgan Gibbs-White and Callum Hudson-Odoi are set to be recalled to the starting lineup. The manager will be without Ola Aina and Nicolas Domínguez due to injury.
In attack, Igor Jesus will be hoping to get the nod to lead the line. A start for the Brazilian would give him the chance to become only the second player in the club’s history to score in his first two major European appearances.
Nottingham Forest predicted XI: Sels; Williams, Milenkovic, Morato, Zinchenko; Sangare, Anderson; Bakwa, Gibbs-White, Hudson-Odoi; Jesus
The Europa League fixture will be played at The City Ground on Thursday, 2 October 2025, with kick-off scheduled for 8:00 pm BST.
The match will be broadcast live on TNT Sports 2 in the UK. Coverage begins at 7:30 pm BST.
