Now Dorgu’s confirmed: Utd will offload £75k-a-week star who’s being circled by ‘a number of European clubs’

Manchester United’s move for Patrick Dorgu has finally received the ‘here we go’ treatment from Fabrizio Romano this evening, therefore marking the first acquisition of Ruben Amorim’s tenure.

The 20-year-old was pursued as the Reds’ first-choice target to occupy Amorim’s newly implemented wing-back position on the left-hand side, so it remains to be seen where Luke Shaw will fit in when he returns from his latest injury setback.

United will pay an upfront fee of £25 million to Lecce and have also pledged a further £4.2m in add-ons to sweeten the deal. Dorgu, a four-capped Denmark international, will sign a long-term contract in the coming days.

His arrival will, in turn, pave the way for out-of-favour Tyrell Malacia to leave on loan before next Monday’s deadline.

Sky Sports’ Dharmesh Sheth confirmed yesterday that the Red Devils would be looking to offload Malacia if they sanctioned Dorgu’s arrival after he garnered interest from ‘a host of European clubs’.

He has failed to reclaim a starting spot ever since his return to action this season following 17 months on the sidelines. More often than not, Amorim has preferred to utilise natural right-back Diogo Dalot in place of the Dutchman, who became Erik ten Hag’s first-ever signing when he made the switch from Feyenoord in 2022.

Malacia, 25, has featured seven times this campaign – four times as a starter. In total, he’s racked up 46 appearances in all competitions, having missed the entirety of the 2023/2024 season through injury.

It remains to be seen where he’ll take his exploits next.
