Maxi Araujo has been linked to Chelsea, but there’s one obvious reason we think a deal is unlikely for the wing back.

The season is reaching its crucial moment, meaning the summer transfer window is closing in. There’s a load of rumours about who Chelsea might sign, including fresh ones appearing this week.

One name we hadn’t heard mentioned before is Maxi Araujo of Sporting.

The left wing back is having another nice season with the Lions, and impressed against Arsenal in the Champions League this week. Following that, rumours of Premier League interest from clubs including Chelsea started to pop up.

A Bola say that Sporting could get offers for more than €40m for the Uruguay international, who is midway through his second season with them.

Araujo doesn’t fit in either of Chelsea’s top categories

To us, this move feels unlikely because Araujo doesn’t fit in either of the two categories of player Chelsea would be looking to sign in – he’s neither a young talent with lots of upside, nor is he an experienced Premier League player.

We can see him coming to the Premier League this summer, but it feels unlikely it will be to Stamford Bridge.

In other news…

Joao Pedro has admitted that one of his friends in the Chelsea squad is having a tough time after a crucial mistake.

Chelsea are looking at defenders as they look to add Premier League experience, and a couple have already been suggested.
