UEFA have assigned the 2027 Champions League Final to the Estadio Metropolitano in Madrid, after San Siro in Milan withdrew its candidacy.
The decision had been expected, and will be the first major event to be held at the recently constructed stadium, which is the home to Atletico Madrid.
The Stadio Giuseppe Meazza in Milan, commonly known as San Siro after the area of the city where it resides, had been given the hosting rights for the 2027 Champions League Final.

However, UEFA were forced to change the venue after the local council was unable to guarantee there would not be extensive building work going on at the time of the event.
This is because Inter and Milan continue their attempts to buy the land so they can build a new arena in what is effectively the car park of the current stadium.
The plan has not yet been given the all-clear due to on-going red tape, as many are still trying to force the clubs and local council to instead refurbish the Stadio Meazza.
The timing and nature of the situation mean the Mayor of Milan Giuseppe Sala was unable to reassure UEFA that it would be ready to host the Champions League Final in 2027.
