Torino have confirmed the appointment of Ignazio Abate as their new head coach with a contract until June 2028.

Former Milan defender Abate has been appointed as the new head coach of Serie A side Torino.

Official: Torino hire Abate as new head coach

The Granata confirmed the 39-year-old’s arrival with an official statement on Friday.

“Torino Football Club is pleased to announce that, effective from July 1, 2026, the First Team will be placed under the management of head coach Ignazio Abate,” the club said.

“The coach has signed a contract running until June 30, 2028.”

Abate served as Juve Stabia’s head coach in Serie B in 2025-26, reaching the play-off semifinal, where his team was eliminated by Monza, who eventually secured Serie A promotion.

During his playing career, Abate played for Milan, Napoli, Empoli, and Torino, among others.

Abate played for the Granata in the 2008-09 campaign, scoring two goals in 27 appearances across all competitions.

Torino had chased Alberto Aquilani before Abate, but the ex-Roma midfielder ultimately joined Sassuolo to replace Fabio Grosso, and his appointment was confirmed on Friday as well.
