Real Madrid announced the signing of Alvaro Carreras from SL Benfica on Monday, with the left-back returning to the club he left five years ago.
The 22-year-old has signed a six-year contract with the Spanish capital giants until 2031, costing the club a sum of €50 million in transfer fees – set to paid out in multiple instalments.
Having arrived to the Spanish capital, Carreras went through his customary medical tests earlier today before signing the contract officially along with Real Madrid president Florentino Perez.

Following that, the young left-back posed with his new Real Madrid shirt, where it was revealed that the left-back will now wear the No. 18 shirt at the club.
Carreras used to don the #3 shirt at Benfica, but that is currently occupied by key defender Eder Militao.
The No. 18 shirt had become vacant this summer following the departure of Jesus Vallejo, who had taken the shirt in 2023 following the arrival of Jude Bellingham. Prior to that, Aurelien Tchouameni wore the shirt for one season, as did Gareth Bale.
Now, Carreras will be Real Madrid’s new No. 18 and hope to excel in Xabi Alonso’s team.
