AS Monaco have confirmed the signing of Simon Adingra (24) from Premier League side Sunderland.

Monaco have been in the market for a forward throughout the January transfer window, after Takumi Minamino suffered an ACL injury at the end of December. A move to bring back Eliesse Ben Seghir from Bayer Leverkusen did not come to fruition and on deadline day, it was Sunderland’s Adingra who emerged as the major target.

Monaco can make Adingra deal permanent for €17m

The winger has not been a nailed-on starter for Sunderland head coach Régis Le Bris off the back of his €24m move from Brighton and Hove Albion FC last summer. The Ivory Coast international only started nine Premier League games with the Black Cats.

Monaco have now confirmed the arrival of the winger. He joins on a loan deal. The Principality club confirmed the existence of a purchase option, reported to be worth €17m.
