In an official statement, FC Barcelona have announced their intention to enter the bidding for the hosting rights of the 2029 UEFA Champions League final at the Spotify Camp Nou.

The Blaugrana, with support from the Barcelona City Council and the Government of Catalonia, intend for their renovated home stadium to be the venue for the 2029 Champions League final.

“The Club and the institutions involved have submitted the initial documentation required to move forward with the procedure and allow UEFA to assess the suitability of the application, in accordance with established protocols,” a part of the statement read.

The formalisation of the final candidacy and the delivery of the complete dossier, with all the necessary documentation to be eligible to host the final, is scheduled for early June 2026.

Barcelona carried out a complete renovation of the Spotify Camp Nou over the past two years and only returned to their home stadium in November 2025.

There has been a gradual increase in the venue capacity since, with the aim to open up the stadium for 62,000 fans by next month.

The completion of the entire renovation is targeted for later this year, following which the stadium will be equipped to accommodate around 105,000 fans.

Camp Nou has been home to the Champions League finals twice in the past – in the 1988/89 season and ten years later in 1998/99, when Manchester United beat Bayern Munich in one of the most historic finale events.

Along with Barcelona’s Spotify Camp Nou, the iconic Wembley Stadium in London is also in contention to host the 2029 Champions League final.
