After a long wait, FC Barcelona have officially confirmed that goalkeeper Wojciech Szczesny has signed a new contract with the club until 2027.
“FC Barcelona and player Wojciech Szczesny have reached an agreement to renew his contract, which will keep him with the Club until June 30, 2027,” the club statement read.
Szczesny, 35, joined Barça in October last year, arriving as an emergency signing after the serious injury sustained by Marc-Andre ter Stegen.
Having made his debut for Hansi Flick’s team in January, the Pole displaced Inaki Pena as the regular starter and made a valuable contribution to the team’s domestic treble triumph.
Szczesny had only signed a short-term contract until the end of the season, which expired on June 30.
However, the idea had been for him to continue at the club beyond this summer and an agreement had been reached a while ago already. Now, the renewal has been made official by the club.
With a total of 30 matches played, Szczesny kept 14 clean sheets for Barcelona, with the team suffering no defeats with him in goal in La Liga.
