Lost among the chaos of Chelsea’s game against Brentford last night was the news that one of the final remaining players in the “bomb squad” has found a move.

David Datro Fofana’s move to Stamford Bridge in January 2023 has proved to be a disaster, even bearing in mind he cost just €10m.

There never seemed to be a plan for him – he never was really given a chance even when his team were lacking strikers. Various unsuccessful loans have been arranged, and the latest one will be to Turkey where he spent last season with Goztepe. After getting a thigh injury in January, he returned to West London after scoring 2 goals in 9 appearances.

This time it’s Fatih Karagumruk who have the Ivorian for the year. A move to Turkey was pretty much his last option, with windows closed across Europe. As Simon Johnson wrote for the Athletic, it was clear that Fofana’s time at Chelsea was up when he wasn’t even considered as a third choice backup once Liam Delap got a hamstring injury.

Meanwhile Nicolas Jackson has been loaned out to Bayern Munich, with a view

Marc Guiu was recalled from his loan to Sunderland to cover from the injured Delap, but they clearly don’t rate him much. He wasn’t even in the squad for last night’s game, which tells you everything you need to know.

We would expect him to join Jackson – and Fofana – in the out tray next summer if moves can be found.
