Bayern Munich have announced that centre-back Dayot Upamecano has extended his contract at the club.

The defender’s previous deal was set to expire at the end of the season, and entering the final stages of his contract meant he was able to speak to other clubs about a move in the summer. However, despite interest from the likes of PSG, Upamecano has decided to stay in Munich.

The 27-year-old’s new contract is valid until 2030, and, along with a hefty signing-on fee, there is also a release clause in the new deal, valid from the summer of 2027 and worth €65m, according to Sky Germany

On extending his contract at the Allianz Arena, Upamecano said:

“I’m really happy to be staying at Bayern and continuing to play in this team. We’ve got a great team and a great coach. We’ve got big goals together. In life, it’s always about mentality. I give my all for my teammates, in every training session, want to keep a clean sheet in every game and want to win as many titles as possible with Bayern.”

Upamecano’s Bayern career:

The French international joined Bayern in 2021 from RB Leipzig for €42.5m, and after a rocky few seasons under Vincent Kompany, Upamecano has developed into one of the best centre-backs in the world and a key piece for the Bundesliga leader’s backline.

The 27-year-old has played 180 games for Bayern, winning the Bundesliga three times.
