Former Eintracht Frankfurt manager Dino Toppmöller has replaced Pierre Sage at RC Lens. The German has signed a X-year deal with Les Sang et Or.
Sage led Lens to a second-place finish in Ligue 1 and to the Coupe de France title, however, having won the latter back at the end of May, he sowed seeds of doubt regarding his future. Crystal Palace, in the market for a new manager following the exit of Oliver Glasner, swooped in. His move to Selhurst Park was confirmed on Monday.
Lens, in anticipation of Sage’s exit, drew up a shortlist, which also included former FC Lorient manager Oliver Pantaloni. However, Les Sang et Or opted to bring in Toppmöller, a polyglot with experience of competing in European football.
That experience will come in valuable next season. Les Sang et Or’s second-place finish in Ligue 1 last season means that the club will participate in next season’s UEFA Champions League.
