Gennaro Gattuso has made two enforced changes to his Italy national team squad after the 6th round of Serie A fixtures over the weekend, as wingers Mattia Zaccagni and Matteo Politano are both now unavailable.
Serie A action will take a brief pause for the October international break over the next fortnight. The Azzurri are due to take on Estonia and Israel in World Cup qualifying on October 11 and October 14 respectively.
CT Gattuso confirmed his 27-man squad to take on Estonia and Israel on October 3, but has already had to make two changes due to injury and fitness concerns.

On Saturday, it was confirmed that Zaccagni would be unavailable for both Italy and Lazio, and that he had been replaced in the national team squad by Fiorentina striker Roberto Piccoli.
On Monday morning, it was confirmed that Politano had also dropped out of the squad due to his withdrawal during Napoli’s 2-1 comeback victory over Genoa at the Stadio Maradona on Sunday.
The FIGC have confirmed that Napoli teammate Leonardo Spinazzola has been called in to replace the unavailable Politano.
This is Spinazzola’s first call-up to the Italy national team squad since September 2023.
