They will take on PSV Eindhoven on the 27th August to secure their progress in the tournament.

To compete domestically and abroad, the Women’s team will aim to add even more talented players to their exciting squad over the next month.

Officially signed

Marc Skinner’s side have made their first move by bringing in Julia Zigiotti Olme.

The club’s official site reported “Manchester United are delighted to announce the signing of Sweden international Julia Zigiotti Olme on a two-year contract, with the option to extend for one year.”

The website adds that “the midfielder joins United from Bayern Munich, after winning the Frauen-Bundesliga and DFB-Pokal last season.”

Zigiotti faced off against United in the Women’s World Sevens tournament in May and also against some Red Devils in Sweden’s defeat to England in the Euros quarter-finals earlier this month.

One of Europe’s finest

Commenting on the move the Sweden international stated, “I am so happy to be here and so happy to get started and to join this family. I have been watching Manchester United in the last couple of years and, having seen what they have been doing, I am very impressed.”

She also added that she believes the team fits her style and that she already feels part of the United family.

Matt Johnson, Manchester United director of women’s football, said: “Julia is one of Europe’s best defensive midfielders who brings a winning mentality and experience of competing in the top competitions.”

He added that fans will enjoy watching the midfielder who has an “insatiable work-rate, ability to win possession back for her team and a creative passing range.”

European and Super League experience

The 27-year-old brings a wealth of experience, having played European football with BK Hacken and Bayern Munich.

She also represented Brighton and Hove Albion 65 times in the Women’s Super League over the course of three seasons.
