Manchester United face a crucial seven-game run-in after the international break that could have huge implications for the club for multiple reasons. Interim head coach Michael Carrick will be using the schedule as an audition for the role on a permanent basis, and Champions League qualification will have a significant impact on the summer transfer window.
One of these crunch fixtures is the always highly anticipated visit of Liverpool to Old Trafford, with Arne Slot’s side also a direct rival for one of the top four places in the Premier League.
As reported by manutd.com, the Premier League has released the official date and time for this huge clash in the latest round of matches selected for television coverage in the UK.
United will welcome their fierce rivals to the Theatre of Dreams on Sunday, 4 May, with a slightly unusual kick-off time of 15:30 GMT.
The bank holiday weekend in the United Kingdom is set for a four-day festival of top-flight football, with games taking place from Friday to Monday.
United will be desperate to complete a league double over Liverpool for the first time in a decade, with the last home and away win in a single season coming under the tutelage of Louis van Gaal.
Harry Maguire’s late header in front of the travelling support at Anfield has given United a wonderful opportunity to repeat the feat this term, with Liverpool struggling to replicate last season’s form.
However, despite a poor campaign to date, Slot’s men will be aware of the importance of the fixture, for bragging rights as well as the league points.
Another potential factor in the game is Liverpool’s possible participation in the Champions League semi-final, with the two legs set to be played either side of that weekend.
Should Liverpool get past PSG in the quarter-finals, Slot will have a huge decision to make regarding team selection at Old Trafford, given the carrot of a Champions League final.
Nevertheless, United need not concern themselves with Slot’s potential headache, with the focus fully on finishing as high up the league table as possible and above their arch rivals in the process.
United boast a wonderful record in fixtures against the traditional top six this season and would love nothing more than to round that off with a win against Liverpool in early May.
