Manchester United defender Leny Yoro has been named in the shortlist for this year’s Golden Boy award.
Since joining United from Lille last summer, Yoro has enjoyed a meteoric rise despite the club’s struggles both on and off the pitch.
He has been one of the very few positives for United since his arrival in a £52m deal.
The Frenchman has impressed with his consistent displays and is among the few players who appear fully at ease in Ruben Amorim’s system.
Alongside his excellent reading of the game, Yoro has caught the eye with his remarkable blend of pace, strength, and composure on the ball. He has featured in all seven of United’s Premier League games this term.
Yoro has now been recognised by being shortlisted for the 2025 Golden Boy award.
A total of 20 players have been shortlisted for the prestigious award, with five additional names making the “Wild Card” list. Yoro is among the 20 main nominees.
Launched in 2023 by Italian newspaper Tuttosport, the Golden Boy award honours the most outstanding footballer aged 21 or under within a given calendar year.
Recent winners of the award include Yoro’s United teammate Matthijs de Ligt, Pedri, Gavi, Jude Belligham and Erling Haaland.
Barcelona superstar Lamine Yamal claimed the award last year but he’s not vying for it this time since the rules prevent any previous winner from lifting it more than once.
To win the award, Yoro will have to ward off competition from the likes of Pau Cubarsí, Désiré Doué, Dean Huijsen, Kenan Yıldız, Myles Lewis-Skelly, Warren Zaïre-Emery, Arda Güler, Franco Mastantuono, Ethan Nwaneri, Gonçalo Estevão, Savio Moreira, Enzo Alves, Jamal Musiala, Nico Williams, Victor Fernández, Lucas Bergvall, Ashley Phillips and Mamadou Sarr.

Voting will be conducted by national news outlets across Europe. Each juror can select five players in order of preference, with their top choice earning 10 points, followed by seven, five, three, and one for subsequent picks. The candidate who garners the most points wins the award.
