RB Leipzig parted ways with €25 million to sign Maxime Estève from Burnley. The center-back faced a second relegation with the English club after starring in their Championship-winning campaign in the 2024/25 season.
The club confirmed the 24-year-old defender signed a deal until 2031. The Frenchman will wear the number 3 shirt in Leipzig, which was last worn by Lutsharel Geertruida, who spent last season on loan at Sunderland.
The left-footed player came through Montpellier’s academy before going on to represent their first team until February 2024. He made the PFA Championship Team of the Year as Burnley became the first team to keep 30 clean sheets, and featured in 34 Premier League games for the Clarets last term. He also played for France's U21 and U23 sides coached by the legendary Thierry Henry.
“Signing Maxime (Estève) is a hugely important move for us. We’re delighted to be bringing in a young centre-back who has already gained plenty of experience in France and England and made impressive strides during his time at Burnley.” said Leipzig’s managing director Marcel Schäfer.
The 1.93m Frenchman also conducted his first interview with the club. “I’m delighted to be an RB Leipzig player. The club stands for high-intensity, fearless football, continuous progress, and big ambitions. That suits me perfectly. Together, we want to enjoy success in the Champions League, the Bundesliga and the DFB-Pokal.”
