In an official statement, Real Madrid have announced that seasoned campaigner Ferland Mendy has suffered a hamstring injury which will sideline him for a while.

“Following tests carried out on our player Ferland Mendy by the Real Madrid Medical Services, he has been diagnosed with a muscle injury in the biceps femoris of his right leg. His recovery will be monitored,” the statement read.

Mendy’s injury happened in Real Madrid’s most recent game against Manchester City. Having started the match at left-back in Alvaro Carreras’ injury-enforced absence, the 30-year-old Frenchman had to be subbed in the 47th minute because of the issue.

Having carried out tests on him earlier today, Real Madrid have confirmed the nature of the injury sustained by Mendy, which will keep him out of action for some time.

While the club has not issued a specific recovery timeline for Mendy, reports suggest that he will be out of action for a week.

As such, he will miss tomorrow’s La Liga encounter against Elche as well as the reverse fixture against Manchester City at Etihad Stadium next week.

It remains to be seen whether Mendy will be fit in time to face Atletico Madrid in the derby on 22 March, which will be Real Madrid’s final match before the international break.
