VfB Stuttgart confirmed the return of Danish striker Wahid Faghir to Velje Boldklub on Saturday. Faghir heads back to the Danish club Stuttgart once paid €3.5m to acquire him from in August 2021. Terms of Faghir’s sale were not divulged. Following Jacob Bruun Larsen’s sale to Burnley, Faghir counts as the second Danish departure from the Swabian Bundesliga outfit today.

Faghir hasn’t appeared in the Bundesliga since 2021. He never managed to realize his potential in the Baden-Württemberg capital. The now 21-year-old – after making six league and one cup appearance in the 2021/22 campaign – never featured for the VfB first team again. He did net one Bundesliga goal in October 2021.

Stuttgart loaned him back to Denmark for the 2022/23 season. After returning from FC Nordsjaelland, he spent the 2023/24 campaign with SV Elversberg in the 2. Bundesliga. Faghir did manage to score goals in both of his loan locales and does depart Germany with three 2. Bundesliga goals on his CV.

Last year, Faghir played a regular role for the Stuttgart reserves in the German 3. Liga last year. He scored eight goals in 22 German third division appearances for VfB II during the 2024/25 campaign.

Faghir also found success while representing the Stuttgart reserves in the German fourth division during his initial season with the club. In the 2021/22 season Regionalliga Südwest, the young talented added four goals in eight appearances.

Despite the fact that Faghir was often prolific in front of goal, various disciplinary issues precluded him from breaking into Stuttgart’s first team. The youngster’s estimated market value consistently declined from a peak of €4.5m in 2021 to €700,000 today.

In a club statement, VfB sporting director Christian Gentner was quick to thank the Danish U21 international for his contribution to the second team.

Wahid made an important contribution to our U21 team’s survival in the third division last season,” Gentner noted. “We thank Wahid for his time in the VfB jersey and wish him all the best and every success for the future.
