Official: Tom Heaton signs one-year contract extension with Manchester United | OneFootball

Manchester United have confirmed that goalkeeper Tom Heaton has put pen to paper on a one-year contract extension.

Heaton was one of the players whose future at Old Trafford was uncertain as his deal was almost expiring.

However, the experienced shot-stopper is now set to remain with the club at least until the end of the upcoming 2024/25 season.

Heaton is currently in his second spell at the club after initially coming through the ranks at Carrington as a youngster.

The 38-year-old told club media on his contract extension, “I am delighted to continue my stay at my boyhood club.”

“I still feel in great shape and I am ready to offer whatever the squad needs throughout the season ahead.”

He added, “In addition to on the pitch, I’m learning so much off it for my next steps, whatever that may be. But, first and foremost, I want to push the squad to build on our successes from last season.”

Heaton is currently with the England squad at Euro 2024.

He was invited by Gareth Southgate to travel with the team to Germany for the duration of the tournament to provide support to the likes of Jordan Pickford, Aaron Ramsdale and former United man Dean Henderson.

England booked their place in their quarter-final of the competition after they came from behind to beat Slovakia in the Round of 16.

The Three Lions’ next assignment is against Switzerland at the Düsseldorf Arena on Saturday.

The fact that Heaton has committed his future to the Red Devils for an additional 12 months almost certainly rules out the possibility of the club bringing in a new goalkeeper, unless Altay Bayindir departs Old Trafford.

United have been linked to goalkeepers such as Christos Mandas and Josep Martinez.
