Official: UEFA issues a strong statement on the ‘Super League’

For several years, the idea of a possible Super League has existed, with FC Barcelona, Real Madrid, and Juventus as founders. However, there has been strong opposition and, little by little, the idea has lost momentum. While Real now seems to be the last major defender, UEFA announced an agreement this Wednesday regarding this famous project that several clubs, including Paris Saint-Germain, had clearly rejected.

This agreement in principle will also resolve the legal dispute relating to the European ‘Super League’ as soon as the agreed principles have been executed and implemented.”

We remain cautious, as the outcome has not been clearly announced and we have already seen the idea of the Super League revived several times when it seemed to be over. However, it would still be quite surprising to see a revival following this statement. UEFA has managed to calm things down, with the help of certain clubs. The new Champions League format, and the revenues that come with it, may also have been a tool to avoid division. Let’s hope this is truly the end of a project that struggled to convince from a sporting perspective. A plan that is generally appreciated when it comes to the new Champions League.
