Croatian fullback Josip Juranovic has received an FC Union Berlin contract extension. The 30-year-old’s new deal with his Bundesliga club runs until 2027. Juranovic – a flexible playing who can work as a fullback or wingback on both flanks – has made 62 competitive appearances for die Eisernsen since joining from Celtic Glasgow during the January 2023 transfer window.
Juranovic’s extension comes at an important time for the East German outfit. Union appear set to lose other high profile players such as Diogo Leite who joined the club during the very same window. After two seasons spent fighting the drop, the former German Champions League representatives are tipped by many to factor into the relegation race again this year.
“Union and Berlin have become a real home for my family and me,” Juranovic noted in a club statement, “Sporting-wise, the last two seasons in particular have been very challenging. As a team, we managed to stay in the Bundesliga. We want to get back to firmly establishing ourselves in the league and deliver more memorable games for our fans.”
“With Josip, we are retaining an important building block who plays a central role with his experience and flexibility,” FCU managing director Horst Heldt added. “We are therefore delighted that he wants to continue along on our journey.“
