Paderborn defender Luis Engelns’ reported on switch to Hoffenheim has been made official. Financial terms of the transfer were not divulged. The youngster – thanks to 17 2. Bundesliga appearances this season – has managed to raise his estimated market value up from €1.5m to €4m over the past seven months.
Despite the fact that Engelns may have indeed been expensive and has plenty of second division appearances, Hoffenheim made clear that he would report to the Hoffenheim reserves in the 3. Liga in order to accrue playing practice for now.
TSG academy technical director Paul Pajduch handled the Bundesliga outfit’s statements.
“We’ve obtained a very exciting player with outstanding match intelligence in central midfield,” Pajduch noted. “Despite his young age, he has already gained valuable experience in professional football. Now he can take the next step in his development here, gain important playing time in the third division and get [gradually] get used to the level in the Bundesliga.”
“Luis approached us with the wish to move to Hoffenheim,” SCP managing director Sebastian Lange in a statement released by Paderborn. “We have agreed to this, even though we regret his departure. Luis is a good example of our youth development program/ He has had a great career with us, and his development is a success story for our entire club. We wish him all the best for the future.“
