Ole Werner hails “top team performance” | OneFootball

RB Leipzig were out of sight by the interval following a blistering first-half display, with Christoph Baumgartner and Brajan Gruda both netting braces to put the hosts firmly in control. Benjamin Henrichs added further gloss late on, marking his return from a long-term injury with a well-taken goal to complete the rout.

Werner was full of praise for his side’s approach and clinical edge, stating:

“In the opening quarter of an hour, it was clear that a top team was visiting. We broke free through good aggression. This time, in contrast to recent weeks, our efficiency was high. It was a top team performance, and we also saw several outstanding individual performances.”

Looking ahead to the race for a Champions League place, Werner acknowledged that such scorelines won’t come every week, but emphasised the importance of consistency:

“It’s not a given that we can repeat this. For the teams fighting for Europe, everything is at stake, and we have to give our all in every game. We have to stay focused and prepare meticulously for every task in training.”

The Leipzig boss also highlighted the development of Gruda, underlining the expectations placed on the young forward:

“Brajan Gruda is a young player. A topic this week was that he should consistently move into areas where scoring opportunities can arise. He has shown that he can do it. Now it’s about repeating that.”

There was also a moment of appreciation for Henrichs, whose goal capped an encouraging return:

“Benny has come a long way, and you could see in his celebration what this means for him, but also what it means for the whole team. We are all happy for him. He is a very important player on and off the pitch.”

With the international break looming, Leipzig will now have time to regroup before turning their attention to a trip to Werder Bremen, where they will aim to carry this momentum into the final stretch of the season.
