Leeds United hit four for the first time this season, sweeping aside FA Cup and Community Shield winners Crystal Palace at Elland Road.

West Ham lost 3-0 at Man City before kick-off, giving Leeds the chance to move six points clear of the drop zone. The win lifted Daniel Farke’s side into 16th with eight points from their last four league games, after taking only 11 from the previous 13. A clean sheet still eludes them.

According to Leedsunited.news, Palace boss Oliver Glasner praised Leeds’ set-piece power and admitted his team could not live with their physicality. He said all four goals came from dead balls and called that embarrassing. Glasner added Leeds could have had two or three more from set plays, a possible tally of seven.

Back in 2001-02, Leeds finished fifth, and missing the Champions League precipitated financial problems. By November 2002, debt had reached £80m. At the turn of that season, they scored three goals in three straight Premier League home games.

Saturday’s result marked the first time in 24 years that Leeds have scored three or more in three successive Premier League home matches. It followed the 3-1 win over Club World Cup champions Chelsea, then a late Ao Tanaka goal earned an equaliser against Liverpool. Next up is a trip to Sunderland.
