Former FC Bayern and Germany goalkeeper Oliver Kahn has advised Jamal Musiala to skip this summer's World Cup.
The 23-year-old is still searching for his best form after returning from the serious ankle injury he suffered at the Club World Cup last summer.
According to Kahn, based on Musiala's performances this season, going to the World Cup with Germany shouldn't be a priority.
“He should refrain from participating in the World Cup," Kahn said on the Sky show “Triple – der Hagedorn-Fussballtalk”.
"If I feel that something in my game isn’t right, then I have to work on myself to be ready again.”
Another former Germany international, Dietmar Hamann, expressed similar concerns, warning that time is running out for Jamal Musiala to return to his best form before the tournament.
“He is not yet in form and cannot help the team at the moment. I don’t know whether it’s doing him or the team any favours to keep playing him again and again," Hamann said.
"The World Cup is not a topic for Jamal Musiala right now. He has to focus on finding his form. Once he has it again, everything else will follow naturally. But time is running out. He only has seven weeks left. Everything has to go perfectly now.
"I also have to judge him based on how much he earns. With a salary at that level, he has to be measured accordingly. He has already been back in training for almost five months. At some point, the foot can no longer be an excuse – even if the injury was, of course, very serious.”
