Omar Marmoush will stay at Manchester City beyond the January transfer window despite talk of a mid-season parting of ways with the club, as per a new report.

Marmoush returned to the scoresheet on his return to the starting XI at the weekend as City claimed their first Premier League win of 2026 by beating Wolves as they reduced Arsenal’s lead at the top of the table to four points.

The 26-year-old joined Manchester City from Eintracht Frankfurt for £59 million in January 2025 and played an instrumental role in helping the Blues finish third in the league and reach the FA Cup final in a sobering 2024-25 season.

However, the resurgence of Phil Foden and form shown by Jeremy Doku have meant minutes have been hard to come by for Marmoush, who scored his first Premier League goal of the 2025-26 campaign to break the deadlock against Wolves on Saturday.

Pep Guardiola’s side were over-reliant on Erling Haaland in the final third in the first half of the season and after Doku suffered an injury in December 2025, executives at the Etihad Stadium intensified their pursuit of Semenyo and signed the Ghana international from Bournemouth for an initial £62.5 million.

The competition is as stiff as it has been up top for Manchester City but Guardiola needs every bit of help he can get amid his side’s pursuit of silverware on four fronts, with the Blues gaining a huge boost in the title race at the weekend after Manchester United beat Arsenal a week on from getting the better of their Etihad Stadium rivals.

City have made a sluggish start to 2026 and despite returning to winning ways on Saturday, the Blues have won just thrice in their last eight games in all competitions and after suffering an embarrassing 3-1 defeat to Bodo/Glimt in the UEFA Champions League last week, Guardiola and co must win in their final group-stage clash with Galatasaray on Wednesday night.

The shrewd signing of Marc Guehi from Crystal Palace has also bolstered Guardiola’s depleted defence in the wake of injuries to Ruben Dias and Josko Gvardiol, with John Stones also unfit after sustaining a leg injury in early December 2025.

Outgoings are expected to dominate the transfer headlines at the Etihad Stadium in what remains of the January window, with Oscar Bobb edging closer to a permanent transfer to Fulham amid discussions among all parties to get a deal over the line.

Marmoush had been linked with a potential mid-season Manchester City exit himself after a disappointing first half of the season but after returning to the scoresheet against Wolves, the Egypt international will not be leaving the club in January, as reported by Ismael Mahmoud.

It has been said that Manchester City had never considered allowing Marmoush to leave mid-season following talk of interest from Tottenham, who came close to signing Brazilian winger Savinho last summer but had a £70 million bid turned down by Etihad Stadium bosses.

Fenerbahce and Galatasaray were also credited with an interest in Marmoush in January but it has been made clear that neither of the Turkish pair have made significant contact with the player’s camp or Manchester City, with Marmoush keen to work with Guardiola, who himself retains great faith in the Egyptian forward.
