Enzo Maresca was delighted for Malo Gusto after he scored his first goal, and admitted the Frenchman was one of Chelsea’s most important players.
Gusto opened the scoring in the second half, the first goal of his senior career as the Blues ran out 3-0 winners against Wolves on Saturday evening.
Joao Pedro and Pedro Neto scored the other goals as Chelsea temporarily moved up to second place in the Premier League.
As has been the case this season Maresca once again made a number of changes to the side which drew 2-2 against Qarabag.
Gusto came in for Reece James, who’d started and completed 90 minutes in the previous two games, but the Blues couldn’t find the breakthrough in the first half.

The deadlock was eventually broken six minutes into the second half as Gusto headed home from Alejandro Garnacho’s pinpoint cross.
Gusto’s team-mates were clearly delighted to see him get on the scoresheet, and Maresca was also full of praise for him after the game.
“Finally,” Maresca told Chelsea’s website.
“Malo was close so many times and we like full-backs attacking and arriving inside the box.
“Last year, it [scoring goals] happened many times with Cucu (Marc Cucurella).
“Tonight, Malo scored to help the team because that goal opened up the game a little bit.
“Malo is one of our main players because he allows us to be versatile.
“So we are very happy for Malo.”
Scoring his first senior goal isn’t the only good news for the France international, with reports stating Chelsea are thinking of offering Gusto a contract extension.

Gusto arrived in the summer of 2023 from Lyon, and impressed in his first season under Mauricio Pochettino, whilst last season was more of a struggle.
The 22-year-old has looked closer to his best this season, and is going to be an important player for the Blues throughout the campaign.
