Enzo Maresca made a big claim about Chelsea’s first half performance as they dropped more points against Bournemouth on Tuesday evening.

The Blues were held to a 2-2 draw by the Cherries and have now taken just three points from the last 15 on offer, and are winless in their last five league games.

Chelsea still sit fourth because Manchester City drew against Brentford, but they will drop to fifth if Newcastle beat Wolves on Wednesday, as the race for the Champions League intensifies.

Maresca makes big claim about first half performance

Chelsea started the game really well and took the lead thanks to a brilliant goal from Cole Palmer, with Nicolas Jackson excellent in the build-up.

It was Palmer’s 14th league goal of the season, and he showed great skill and composure with the finish as he calmly put the ball past Mark Travers.

The Blues were excellent in the first half, but what followed was a familiar story as they created a number of chances and failed to take them.

Ultimately Maresca’s men got punished in the second half as they conceded a sloppy penalty, before Antoine Semenyo fired the visitors ahead.

Reece James rescued a point with a last minute free kick, and Maresca pointed out where his side must improve, with the Italian clearly unhappy with the second half performance.

However, Maresca made a big claim about Chelsea’s first half performance and labelled it one of the best moments of their season.

“It was one of the best parts of the season in the first half,” he said as cited on X.com.

“We were aggressive and the chances we created, we are a bit unlucky in scoring goal, we miss and then we concede.

“We need to continue, the bad thing as I said is that after the penalty, we drop and there is no reason we need to do that. The game was completely in our control and it’s something we need to improve.”

Chelsea have plenty of time to prepare for their next game against Wolves on Monday, a game which they must win if they want to avoid slipping away from the top four.
