Real Madrid star Vinicius Jr. spoke Caze TV (h/t AS) in a interview where he was asked about Lamine Yamal, especially in light of the upcoming FIFA World Cup where they may lock horns as international rivals.

Vinicius had only praise for the youngster and acknowledged the teenager’s talent.

“Lamine is one of those players that people pay to watch play. He is a great player and it is very difficult to play against him.”

He then affirmed that the respect that likely goes two ways, making it clear that brilliance supersedes even sporting rivalry at times.

“I’m sure he also admires the Madrid players.”

Two starkly different situations

Heading into the World Cup, both Yamal and Vinicius are indeed the marquee players for their respective countries. However, both players enter the event in starkly different situations.

While the Barcelona star arrives as a young talent still far from the peak of his career or any need to show leadership, Vinicius is at a point in his career where he is expected to step up for his country.

The Barcelona star, however, is returning from an injury and the Spain manager will be cautious to introduce him back gradually.

After all, his presence is crucial for Spain’s chances at the event, and it is likely that Yamal only arrives in time for the second game.
