Manchester City picked a crucial 2-1 win over Aston Villa at the Etihad last night. The result is massive in City’s bid to secure Champions League football for next season. There was a resolve to Pep Guardiola’s team last night and it shone through in their performance. But one player typifies the resolve of Pep Guardiola’s team more than any other. That is Bernardo Silva and he was instrumental in City’s win last night.
Last night saw Bernardo Silva open the scoring in the seventh minute of last night’s match. But his goal doesn’t even begin to scratch the surface of his performance. The Portuguese international was everywhere over the course of 90 minutes as he did everything he could to help his team pick up a massive three points. Bernardo dropped deep into midfield when required. He also popped up on the right wing and did all of the hard work that makes him such a special player. His performance was crucial to City’s win and it was a display that showed why Bernardo has been so crucial to City’s success in recent years.
Pep Guardiola was full of praise for Bernardo Silva and his efforts this season. He had special praise for the Portuguese international when spoke after his team’s win. Speaking on Bernardo Silva, Guardiola told the media: “I don’t forget Bernardo, what he has done for us this season. Now we are here he didn’t play as much but I don’t forget in November, December, January, February, March, when we didn’t win one single game and he was there every single time. Running 30km every single way, playing different positions and he didn’t stop running. It was a moment that was empty mentally. After that, not winning game, it was empty and tired. Bernardo played important games and he had an incredible, huge personality. He’s a player for me that is on another level.”
If any player typifies the resolve of Pep Guardiola’s team, it is, and has always been Bernardo Silva. He provided another glimpse of that last night as he did everything he possibly could to help his team pick up a massive three points. Bernardo’s efforts were key in his team’s win and he showed that he still has plenty to offer for the remainder of this season.
