Djeidi Gassama would love it if Danny Rohl was appointed as Rangers boss due to Sheffield Wednesday connection
Djeidi Gassama could be given a new lease of life if Danny Rohl were to be appointed as the new Rangers boss in replace of Russell Martin due to their Sheffield Wednesday days together.
Following the sacking of Russell Martin at the weekend, ex-Sheffield Wednesday manager Danny Röhl could well be the man in line to replace him in the dugout at Rangers.
The Scottish side have had a well below-par start to the season by their standards, having merely picked up eight points in their opening seven Scottish Premiership matches, which puts them eighth in the table.
With the SPL most commonly being a two-horse race between Rangers and Celtic, they find themselves nine points away from their rivals and 11 points off table toppers Hearts, which even at this stage could be too much ground to cover.
According to multiple reports, including GIVEMESPORT, Röhl is a key candidate for the role as boss at Ibrox, which could benefit one player in particular due to their link-up back in England with Sheffield Wednesday.
One man who is yet to make his mark for Rangers is Djeidi Gassama, who has failed to find the net in his opening seven league games for his new club.
The Frenchman signed for Rangers in the summer from Sheffield Wednesday for a fee of £2.2m after scoring seven league goals last season for the Owls, and will be hoping to get off the mark soon — maybe under the guidance of Röhl.
Despite not finding the back of the net so far in the league for Rangers, Gassama has shown why Wednesday fans were so disappointed to lose their attacker.
The 22-year-old has already made his mark in linking up play and bringing others into the attacks. However, in Europe is where he has really shown his worth.
Gassama scored four goals in his opening four games in the Champions League qualifying against Panathinaikos and Plzen and has quickly been handed the role as Rangers’ main attacking threat which could be further unlocked by the potential arrival of Röhl.
The pair know each other very well from their time together at Wednesday and the French youth international could really kick on at Ibrox and translate his high performance levels from European competitions to the SPL too. One thing for sure is that Gassama would more than welcome the German manager if he were to be appointed.
Gassama has already shown that he has the proven ability to make the step up and play for a club with the size of Rangers, and the heavy expectation that comes with the job. Especially in the most scrutinised position as the key talisman.
Although it's been far from plain sailing for him in the early stages of his career in Scotland, the potential arrival of Röhl could steady the ship for the club as a whole, but for Gassama, he will know what is expected of him.
With Rangers being a club with optimistic goals and a desire to win trophies, it's an ethos that neither Gassama nor Röhl have been used to when at Sheffield Wednesday, but with the striker merely being 22-years-old, he could be one for the future and help Rangers achieve silverware and contribute to the historic success that the fans demand.
As for Wednesday fans, they will be hoping for Röhl's potential appointment at Rangers and the link-up with Gassana to go well for their former pair. However, they won't help but wish they had the striker's services at this current time after undergoing a difficult period in Yorkshire.
