In a major development, journalist Ramon Alvarez reports that Real Madrid are all set to sign former academy ace Alvaro Carreras from SL Benfica.
The Merengues have agreed to activate the left-back’s €50 million release clause to bring him back to Valdebebas five years after he left to join Manchester United.
With a personal agreement over a six-year deal already secured with the player, only the completion of his medicals remain before the transfer is made official.
Benfica, for their part, are obliged to make the transfer announcement soon for the stock exchange, which they will do as soon as the terms of the payment of the fee are agreed upon.
The same information has been relayed by journalist Rodra P (via Inaki Angulo Twitch), who also states that Carreras to Real Madrid is a done deal with only the medicals now pending.

Rodra also reports that Benfica are already finalising the signing of a new left-back to replace the 22-year-old Spanish ace, who is now on his way back to Real Madrid.
The left-back position had become a concern at the Santiago Bernabeu this season with neither Ferland Mendy nor Fran Garcia doing enough to convince in the starting role.
Furthermore, the Frenchman’s injury woes posed a major concern for Real Madrid, which is why signing an upgrade in the position had become a priority.
Now, with Carreras’ signing seemingly in the bag and Dean Huijsen and Trent Alexander-Arnold also signed, Real Madrid will likely shift their focus to the recruitment of a new midfielder.
Meanwhile, work is also being done to bring back another former academy talent in Nico Paz, who can be re-signed for €8 million.
