Opta’s latest predicted final Premier League table has shifted after a pivotal weekend for Leeds United, with a tight call between Leeds and Crystal Palace and Tottenham’s outlook transformed. According to yorkshireeveningpost.co.uk, the new projections reflect significant swings for the Whites’ rivals.
Leeds moved nine points clear of the relegation zone on Friday night with a 3-1 win over Burnley, climbing a point and a place above Newcastle United into 14th.
Newcastle reclaimed the spot with a 3-1 home victory against Brighton on Saturday. More telling for Leeds, West Ham lost 3-0 at Brentford, leaving the Hammers seven points back with three games to play.
On Sunday, a 3-0 defeat for Crystal Palace at Bournemouth dropped the Eagles below Leeds on goal difference, lifting Daniel Farke’s side a place without playing. The day ended with Spurs winning 2-1 at a much changed Aston Villa, moving out of the drop zone at West Ham’s expense, one point above them and within six of Leeds.
Leeds visit Tottenham at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium next Monday night. They might be mathematically safe by then, with West Ham hosting title-chasing Arsenal on Sunday. An Arsenal win would leave Leeds seven points ahead with two matches remaining and confirm safety.
Fifth-bottom Nottingham Forest travel to Chelsea on Bank Holiday Monday at 3pm, sitting three points above the drop and four behind Leeds with a game in hand.
