The Academy graduate has been recognised by a fan vote after an outstanding breakout campaign in which he has shone for Pep Guardiola’s side in a fierce title race with Arsenal.

In fact, the news comes less than 24 hours after he was crowned our very own Etihad Player of the Year.

Having progressed through our youth ranks as a midfielder, the 21-year-old has made his name in senior football from left-back.

With incredible energy and a phenomenal work ethic, O’Reilly has proved just as much of a threat in the final third as he has a defensive stalwart.

He has played 34 of our 37 Premier League games so far this season, scoring five times and providing three assists.

His development was recognised with an England debut last November and the Mancunian will this summer go to his first World Cup after being selected in Thomas Tuchel’s 26-man squad earlier this week.

It caps a wonderful season in which he has twice been named City’s Etihad Player of the Month, winning fan votes in February and April.

“I’m very proud to have won this award,” said O’Reilly.

“After my first appearances in senior football last season, I knew this year I could have the opportunity to play more and help the team as much as possible if I worked hard.

“To get so many minutes and earn the trust of the manager and my teammates hasbeen the greatest achievement in my career so far.

“I am so grateful to my family and everyone at City because this wouldn’t have been possible without them.

“I’d also like to thank everyone who voted for me. That recognition means a lot.

“I’m excited to finish the season strong tomorrow and then head to my first World Cup before joining back up with City and working hard again next season.

“And the City fans, they have been unbelievable. I’ve really felt their support, so thank you to all of them.”

O’Reilly saw off competition from City team-mate Rayan Cherki, as well as Bournemouth pair Junior Kroupi and Alex Scott, Brentford’s Michael Kayode, Manchester United midfielder Kobbie Mainoo, Newcastle United’s Lewis Hall and West Ham player Mateus Fernandes to win the award.

This is the fourth time a City player has won this award since its inception in 2019.

Phil Foden claimed the honour in both 2020/21 and 2021/22, with Erling Haaland taking the vote in 2022/23.

Everyone at Manchester City would like to congratulate Nico on this award and his exceptional season.
