Corinthians welcomed a famous visitor on Thursday morning as preparations continued for the Supercopa do Brasil against Flamengo. Adolpho Veloso, the Brazilian director of photography nominated for the 2026 Oscar for Best Cinematography for Sonhos de Trem, dropped into CT Joaquim Grava to watch training and meet the squad.
The club said in a post that Veloso spent the morning at the facility, meeting head coach Dorival Júnior and players Breno Bidon, Memphis Depay and Yuri Alberto. He posed for photos around the complex and chatted with staff.
In recent days Veloso has drawn extra attention not only for international acclaim but for openly declaring his passion for Corinthians. In an interview with Netflix, distributor of Sonhos de Trem, he discussed the film and work abroad, signed off with a “vai, Corinthians” and urged Yuri Alberto to stay amid European interest.
That was not the only moment he blended cinema and football. On 10 December, after winning Best Cinematography from the Los Angeles Film Critics Association, Veloso ended his thanks with another “vai, Corinthians”, prompting laughs and applause from the room.
Set in the early 20th century, Sonhos de Trem follows a lumberjack, played by Joel Edgerton, against the backdrop of America’s railroad expansion. Critics have highlighted Veloso’s predominant use of natural light, especially across the landscapes of the northwest, as a standout feature.
The 2026 Oscars ceremony is scheduled for 15 March in Los Angeles. Brazil also features in four other categories with O Agente Secreto, directed by Kleber Mendonça Filho and starring Wagner Moura.
